Trust Tairāwhiti

A Community Development Facilitator

Challenge: Funding Management & Project Execution

Trust Tairāwhiti is instrumental in channelling funds for various community-based development initiatives in Gisborne. The challenge is that funding recipients/ community groups are trying to deliver community projects in their spare time while still having to deliver on their work and family responsibilities.

Solution: Systematic Oversight & Process Enhancement

Stepping in as the project manager/agent, Seven Rivers formed a strategic partnership with Trust Tairāwhiti to implement a practical and transparent process for the oversight and delivery of community projects.

A rigorous set of checks and balances was instituted, aimed at streamlining the allocation and utilisation of funds for various community projects. Our role extended to developing a step-by-step due diligence process that the Trust can use for future funding endeavours, thereby establishing a sustainable and responsible funding model.

Project Insight: Filling the Knowledge Gap

Our assessment indicated that one of the key reasons for project difficulties was the community groups’ lack of construction industry experience.

To bridge this gap, Seven Rivers supported key decision makers within the community group to help them grow their own knowledge so that they could be more effective in the role of project manager.

In addition to this support, we implemented standardised project templates, such as risk registers and project reports.

These proactive steps served to enhance project management skills among community groups, making them more self-reliant and informed.

Result: Ensured Funding Efficacy

The collaborative endeavour with Trust Tairāwhiti had multiple positive outcomes, most notably a more responsible distribution of funds.

The comprehensive systems and support will lead to a number of successful community projects, varying from installing pool heating systems in coastal schools to rebuilding facilities that were devastated by the recent Cyclone Gabriel.

With our ongoing involvement as the client’s PM, we’ve ensured that these projects not only meet their stated goals but also remain on budget, reinforcing Trust Tairāwhiti’s commitment to community development.
